Quindi prova a mangiarne solo pochi morsi.

How to fight Emotional Hunger.

In our last newsletter, we talked about ways to avoid stray from our own goals of weight control. We have deliberately left out of the discourse of 'emotional hunger ' so that we can discuss in more detail here because all of us, at some point, started eating when trying to deal with emotional problems. When this time comes, ask yourself: "Am I feeding my stomach or my feelings? " Often the answer is, "Both."

We need to eat to fuel the body, but sometimes you eat to satisfy our emotions. There may be certain foods because we are happy, sad or bored, but when you eat for reasons other than physical hunger, then we speak of "emotional hunger " .

Eating when we are not really hungry is a sure way to add unnecessary calories and this can quickly ruin our weight control program. So how do you fight the "emotional hunger"?
Knowing the difference and managing it in the correct way .

Knowing the difference :

1 - The "emotional hunger" suddenly appears while physical hunger occurs gradually.
2 - Even if you're satisfied , you're more likely to continue to eat if it is to satisfy an emotion.
3 - If your stomach 'grumbles' for the hungry, you can eat just about anything to appease him, but if you feel the need of a particular food such as ice cream, chocolate or crisps, you're probably eating for 'Feeding an emotion' .
4 - The "emotional hunger" makes you feel a strong urge to eat something immediately, whether it is physical hunger, you can wait.
5 - You feel guilty after you have satisfied the "emotional hunger", but you will not feel guilty for having satisfied the physical hunger !

Managing the "emotional hunger"

1 - Try to recognize the feelings that make you want to appease the "emotional hunger" .
2 - Fight the urge to eat doing something else - try to go for a walk, do some housework or talking with a friend.
3 - Find a 'comforting' food that is a healthy alternative, so when the urge comes, you have already an option that is not junk food.
4 - It is moderation, not elimination. If you're on a diet, eliminating all unhealthy foods can do more harm than good. For example, if you can not live without chocolate, do not deprive yourself completely. Take one small portion and then put it away.
5 - Sometimes you just need a taste. So try to eat only a few bites. It is very likely that it is enough to remember the rewarding experience, rather than feel guilt after having finished the whole package !

If you recognize that you're eating for an emotion remember that, whatever is your food choice, you must learn to control it and use moderation. Alternative healthy and tasty snacks will support your goals and not destroy them.
